Field Trips
The Potomac Valley Aquarium Society is pleased to offer three field trips for our All-Aquarium Catfish Convention 2008 guests to explore Maryland. Please register for one field trip before September 1 on the convention web site’s registration page.
Field trips may be cancelled due to lack of participation. Individuals who have paid for cancelled trips may be given the option to join another trip or be reimbursed.
Field trips are available only to registered convention guests and their companions. All field trips board Friday, Oct. 17, at 9am.
Field Trip 1: Baltimore’s Inner Harbor: $35.00
A motor coach will depart from the convention hotel and deliver guests to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. From there, guests may choose from many exciting attractions including the National Aquarium in Baltimore, the USS Constellation clipper ship and Baltimore Maritime Museum, the Babe Ruth Museum, the B&O Museum, and much, much more. Also featured are shopping venues and excellent restaurants. The coach will retrieve guests in the afternoon and return to the hotel in time for dinner and evening programs.* Guests will be provided with maps and brochures of Baltimore’s attractions but are encouraged to research their excursions beforehand. Field trip cost includes coach only! Please bring money for lunch and admissions to attractions.
Field Trip 2: Maryland’s Local Fish Stores: $35.00
A motor coach will depart from the convention hotel and take guests to a variety of excellent independent aquarium stores around Maryland. Specific venues will be updated as visits are arranged with the stores. Please bring any containers with which to transport live purchases at any of the aquarium stores. Field trip cost includes coach only! Please bring money for lunch.
Field Trip 3: Collecting at Unicorn Lake: $45.00
Former North American Native Fishes Association President Bob Bock will once again take a group of intrepid collectors in search of madtoms and other native fishes and other aquatic animals at Unicorn Lake on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. A chartered mini-bus will depart from the convention hotel and return before dinner and evening programs. Removal of any collected fishes and other animals may be restricted and will be determined by the field trip leader. Field trip cost includes transporation, permits and equipment including nets and seines. Collectors interested in removing specimens must bring their own containers. Please bring money for lunch and be prepared for inclement and/or cold weather collecting!
*Guests on the Baltimore field trip will be responsible for returning to the coach at the designated departure time for return to the hotel. A field trip leader with a cell phone will be assigned to assist guests who may become lost or otherwise have difficulty returning to the coach before its return to the hotel. In the instance that a guest does not return to the coach on time, they are responsible for their own transportation back to the convention hotel.
