Hans – Georg Evers

Hans – Georg Evers lives in Hamburg, Germany and is - since his very early days - an aquarist by heart. Starting with a community tank, his interest soon became specialised in African cichlids of the Lake Tanganjika and later on West Africa. In the early eighties he visited a friend whose Corydoras aeneus were spawning. Since that moment he fell in love with these little creatures and until today the Corydoradinae and Loricariidae are his most favoured fish, followed by tetras and all other imaginable freshwater fishes. Hans has so far bred and raised more than 250 different species of freshwater fishes in his tanks. The majority of those are the Corys which count to 82 different spp., and also the Loricariidae with more than 40 different spp. His recent installation consists of about 50 tanks from very small (two gallons) up to quite big ones (almost 200 gallons).

Hans Evers is a busy traveller. He fluently speaks English, Portuguese, and a bit of Spanish and has visited many tropical countries in search of new and interesting fishes for the aquarium hobby. Countless journeys were undertaken to the Amazon, mainly to Brazil, where he collected in all bigger affluents of the Amazonas river and other parts of the huge country. He has also collected in Peru, Venezuela. He has also visited Asian countries, mainly Indonesia, quite a few times.

He has published 10 books about his experiences and findings: e.g. the "Mergus catfish atlas," together with his good friend Ingo Seidel; and the "Identification Guide to Corydoradinae Catfishes" with Ian Fuller. Worldwide, he has more than 500 articles published in hobbyist magazines. Since 2005 he is the chief editor of the German aquarium magazine, AMAZONAS.

Hans Evers simply loves fish. That is the motor for all his activities around the most beautiful hobby in the world.
